VIDEO: GPA Launches “My Energy”; Customers Can Now Monitor Power Consumption Online

Guam – With power bills slowly on the rise, GPA launches an e-Portal service called “ME” where customers can monitor their power consumption online.

“ME” which stands for My Energy lets customers have better control of their energy usage by monitoring their power consumption by day, week and month.

GPA Spokesperson Art Perez said using My Energy can help customers conserve electricity and manage utility costs. “It doesn’t break down by alliances for customers to view. We don’t have the technology via this method to do that. We don’t monitor appliances used in the house, we monitor the aggregate total. From there, customers can better determine what may have been on at that time of the day or particular day of the week and make better decisions on how to better manage or reduce the amount of energy used in that time,” explained Perez.

This service is free to residentital customers with a new smart meter. After registering online, customers can even set up alerts if a certain limit of power usage is reached.

Perez said, “So in this way, customers won’t have a bill shock on high energy usage in the month. Now as GPA progresses in our Customer Information Systems to add more data to this, we will be able to better plan out how much its costing a customer each day so that they’ll be able to know what their bill is before the end of the month.”

GPA is also working on the social media aspect of “ME” where customers can get updates, know of any other tools available to them, and receive notifications of power outages in their areas. So far, about 42,000 smart meters are up and running around the island with about 5,000 left to be installed.

“We’re continuing meter roll outs throughout this month of December. We’ll be sending out public advisories that line crews will be on certain villages and we’re continuing with those customers who have set up appointments who may have been off island at that time or who changed their mind about getting a new meter after seeing what we have here in My Energy.” said Perez.
