Guam – A former Guard at the Department of Corrections was arrested Sunday on a Robbery charge and then order released today [Monday] by the Attorney General.

Acting Guam PIO Officer Paul Tapao says that Aaron Cruz Jessop was booked and confined yesterday  on charges of robbery and conspiracy.

The incident involved 2 female tourists who were walking down JFK Hill from Kmart about 1:30am, when one of the women noticed a man  running towards them. They told police the man grabbed one of their Kmart bags, and then towards the jungle line at Meskla Dos.

The 2 women followed the man into the jungle, but stopped before locating the thief  because “poor lighting and safety issues.”

Offcier Tapao says a witness to the crime gave them a description of the suspect’s vehicle and the license plate number of that vehicle. An all points bulletin was issued. Soon after, a Dededo Precinct Officer on a routine patrol in the Latte Heights area of Mangilao spotted the suspect vehicle and stopped it.

Jessop was driving the vehicle and inside it police found the Kmart bag, and items purchased by the victim, says Officer Tapao.
However Spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s Office Carlina Charfauros told PNC News that the AG ordered Jessop released this morning following an attorney review which determined that there was insufficient evidence.

“Aaron Jessop was releases from custody due insufficient evidence to move forward the with robbery and conspiracy charges brought against him,” stated Charfauros, “He was issued a Notice to Appear and charges may be brought forth after further review and investigation,” she said.

Up until last week, Jessop was a Guard at the Department of Corrections.

DOC Spokesman Lt. Antone Aguon confirms that Jessop was terminated last Thursday along with another DOC guard following an investigation into the hole found in the perimeter fence this past January.

Lt. Aguon declined to name the other officer who was terminated and declined to discuss any of the details of the investigation that led to their dismissals.
