VIDEO: Guam Celebrates Dr. King Holiday With Start of “Guamanian Year of Service”

Guam- In 1986, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day became a national holiday to honor the day King was born, January 15, 1929. While today [Monday] may be another day off for the Government of Guam, students and island leaders came together to celebrate how King’s civil rights efforts led to more opportunities for island residents.

The “Year of the Guamanian Service” also creates island wide monthly days of service held every 2nd Saturday of the month.
