Guam – The Guam Visitors Bureau launched their 2014 Events Calendar this morning at a conference held at the Hyatt.
The calendar includes annual signature events such as the Micronesia Island Fair and the Guam International Marathon. GVB announced the that focus this year is mostly on Sports and Events tourism to draw more visitors to the island.
The highlight of the calendar launch was unveiling the Bureau’s newest event The Guam Live International Music Festival. The all-day music event set for this summer will showcase top bands and artists from the US, Japan, Korea and Guam.
Acting General Manager Jon Nathan Denight said GVB will be promoting the 2014 calendar and market it to visitors.

The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) today announced its 2014 calendar of events with a renewed focus on sports and events tourism to draw additional visitors to the island. These upcoming Guam events aim to promote the island’s rich culture and diversity while simultaneously benefiting the local community.
GVB officials touted their annual signature events to include the Guam Ko’ko’ Kids Run, Guam International Marathon, Guam Micronesia Island Fair, Guam BBQ Block Party, Guam Ko’ko’ Half Marathon and Ekiden Relay and the Guam Long Ride/Tour of Guam. In addition, GVB and the Mayors’ Council of Guam plugged the various Village Festivals, which give visitors a unique opportunity to experience island life and culture.
Additional events which receive GVB Sports Tourism funding include the 21st Annual Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival, 30th Annual Smokin’ Wheels, Lacoste Guam Futures 2014, Guam Commons Cup Table Tennis Tournament, Guam Marianas International Fishing Derby, XTERRA Guam Championships, Guam Rugby TRUE GRIT, Guam Governor’s Cup Ladies Golf Tournament, and the Junko Friendship Rubber Baseball Tournament.
The Bureau also unveiled plans for a new international music festival dubbed “GUAM LIVE.” Furthermore, GVB is also supporting more culture and arts events that include the Guam Art Exhibit (GAX) and the Guam International Film Festival (GIFF).
“GVB has the ability to manage, create and support the development of unique tourism experiences such as village and cultural festivals, sporting events and community programs,” said Acting General Manager Jon Nathan Denight. “Successful brand management is when demand for Guam leads to actual visitation and incomparable visitor experience. When this is accomplished, the island benefits with increased visitor spending, repeat visitation and endorsements for travel to Guam.”
