Guam – Late last night GWA discovered that 2 water mains had broken in Mangilao. GWA Spokeswomen Heidi Ballendorf says Wednesday’s 5.4 earthquake is suspected of causing the ruptures.
The first break to an 8-inch line was quickly repaired, but then GWA discovered a break in a 16 inch main.
That prompted an emergency water declaration at 2am this morning effecting customers along Route 10 from the Mangilao Winchells to Father Duenas School and surrounding streets.
It also forced the closure of Father Duenas High School today, cancelled classes at GCC until 2pm this afternoon and forced the closure of Public Health and the cancellation of a free immunization program there this morning.
Bellendorf said that water service was restored by l1am, but she doesn’t rule out more water main breaks over the next few days as a result of yesterday’s earthquake.
