VIDEO: Hundreds Line Up For Public Housing Assistance

Guam- As of 4 p.m. Monday afternoon, 1,157 people applied for public housing assistance. Since Sunday afternoon, hundreds lined up from the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority (GHURA) office in Sinajana to the St. Fidelis Friary  to get their names on that waiting list. Officials say they were shocked at the number of people that applied since the local government closed the list 5 years ago.

The expected 5,000 applicants will undergo a stringent set of requirements to qualify for Section 8 and other public housing programs . To apply or for more information, log on to www.ghura.org .

Section 8 Income Limits:
$20,900 for a houshold of 1
$23,850 for a household of 2
$26,850 for a household of 3
$29,800 for a household of 4
$32,200 for a household of 5
$34,600 for a household of 6
$37,000 for a household of 7
$39,350 for a household of 8

Public Housing Income Limits:
$33,400 for a household of 1
$38,200 for a household of 2
$42,950 for a household of 3
$47,700 for a household of 4
$51,550 for a household of 5
$55,350 for a household of 6
$59,150 for a household of 7
$63,000 for a household of 8

Potential applicants should bring with them Birth Certificates and Social Security Cards for all household members, and a picture identification card of all adults in the household.
