VIDEO: “Johnny Atulai” Taitano Arrested For Illegal Fishing; Questions Port Enforcement Policies

Guam- Long time fisherman John Taitano, better known as “Johnny Atulai”, says she’s retiring after he was arrested and accused of illegally fishing yesterday [Sunday]. However, other fishermen feel he is being singled out for the Port Authority’s lack of enforcement with fishing laws.

PNC contacted the Port Authority on the arrest of Taitano. Harbor Master Felix Pangelinan responded through a statement clarifying that Taitano was “arrested for illegal net fishing in the marina, which is a violation of the marina rules and regulations.”

He also states full enforcement is ongoing and that the port is “taking the public’s concerns into consideration and would ideally like to have a situation where the fishing community can co-exist in the marinas.”
