Guam – Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio has declared the week of October 7 to 13 as Patriot Week.
This is the first time the Guam Community is celebrating patriotism. Several events are lined up for the entire week. It kicks off with an invitation extended to military members to the 25th Guam Micronesia Island Fair which begins today.
The Guam Chamber of Commerce is also planning a salute to armed forces tonight.
Finally, it ends with an open house at Andersen Air Force Base where civilians are invited into the base for various events and, weather-permitting, an air show.
“It’s not about the military or the Guam community. It’s about one community. There is a gate between the military and the community but in reality there isn’t, there shouldn’t be. So the events of Patriot Week will allow not only Chamorros and Guamanian’s to participate and experience what the military is doing like with the open house, but also the military coming out in town and experiencing what Guam has to offer, what the region has to offer,” said Noel Enriquez, coordinator of Patriot Week.
