Guam – PNC Reporter Betsy Brown opened up to the public today, revealing that she has Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) on the K57 Patti on the Radio show this morning.
RA is an autoimmune disease that primary affects the joints causing stiffness and swelling but it can also lead to damage of the joints and internal organs. RA has been classified as an Autoimmune Arthritis disease by the International Autoimmune Arthritis movement, a non-profit organization Brown advocates for.
Other Autoimmune Arthritis diseases include: Psoriatic Arthritis, Anklosing Spondylitis, Primary Sjorgren’s Syndrome, Sytemic Lupus Erythematosis, Still’s Disease, Juvenile Arthritis, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease/Undifferentiated Spondyloarthropathy.
Brown has planned an event to raise awareness about Autoimmune Arthritis locally. The event will be be held on May 20th, World Autoimmune Arthritis Day, at Java Hut Coffee Shop (behind Oka Payless) in Tamuning from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
The WAAD Guam Party will allow the public an opportunity to connect with Autoimmune Arthritis patients and supporters to meet and to connect to the WAAD Virtual Convention. Participants are asked to bring a laptop, ipad or smartphone to the event to connect to the convention.
GTA TeleGuam will be raffling off a free iPhone 4 at the event. The Guam Regional Medical City will also have representatives available to discuss referrals to see a specialist at The Medical City in the Philippines and to answer questions about the hospital under construction in Dededo.
