Guam – The Guam Federation of Teachers is calling for arbitration to settle the long drawn out contract negotiations for Port workers represented by the GFT.
Earlier this month, GFT President Matt Rector sent a letter to Port General Manager Pedro Leon Guerrero complaining that over the last year, the union has sent a number of letters calling on Port management to resume negotiations , but there has been no response.
Rector is accusing the Port of unfair labor practices and as a result, Rector writes in his letter, that contract negotiations are at an impasse. And the GFT has invoked its right to call for the appointment of an arbitrator.
Port Board Chairman Dan Tydingco says the Port’s response is under examination by their attorneys.
Rector says that he has already appointed a member to the arbitration panel and he is William Pole.
