Manenggon, Guam – Thursday night Budweiser Fall Amateur Baseball League action was a nail biter as the defending champion Talofofo Rangers narrowly avoided defeat rallying from five runs down to come back and shock the AXE Stars. Ranger’s birthday boy Terrance Pablo would blow out the candles with a walk off single in the bottom of the 7th to give the Rangers a come from behind 8-7 win.
The Stars would get on the board first scoring in each of the first four innings taking advantage of six Rangers errors to jump out to a 5-0 lead. A triple from Heath Indalecio and rbi singles by Larry Bombon and Ray Apiag would pace the Stars offense while starting pitcher Steve Aguon kept the Rangers off balance at the plate and got several nice defensive plays as the Rangers offensive started cold.
Zachary De la Cruz would get the Ranger’s going in the 4th inning with a two rbi single and the Rangers cut the lead to 5-3 after four innings. The Rangers would stay hot in the 5th inning with back to back singles by Conan and Derek De la Cruz scoring two more runs for the Rangers as they would tie the game up at 5-5.
The Stars would answer in the top of the 5th with another Ray Apiag rbi single scoring Philip Esparza to take a 6-5 lead. Esparza would finish the game with three runs scored. The Stars would add insurance in the top of the 7th inning with Larry Bombon doubling off the left field walk and coming into to score on a double by Randy Treltas to put the Stars on top 7-5.
The Rangers would get a break in the bottom of the 7th with leadoff hitter Fernando Rabago reaching on error. Angelo Taijeron would follow with an rbi double cutting the lead to 7-6. Taijeron would steal 2nd and 3rd and come in to score on a fielding error to tie the game at 7-7. Birthday boy Terrance Pablo give the Rangers a walk off 8-7 win with a bases loaded single to complete the Ranger’s comeback.
Pablo picks up Strike Zone Player of the Game going 2 for 3 with the walk off GWRBI hit. Conan De la Cruz added three hits and starting pitcher Frank Santos battled for the complete game win allowing twelve hits while striking out eight. The Rangers improve to 3-1 on the season.
Steve Aguon picks up the loss for the Stars despite allowing only three earned runs in six innings. Pete Leon Guerrero, Ray Apiag, Chris Fejeran, Larry Bombon and Randy Treltas each had two hits in the loss as the Stars fall to 0-3 on the season.
Budweiser Fall Amateur Baseball League action continues this weekend with games at 3pm and 6pm on Saturday and 12pm, 3pm and 6pm on Sunday at Leo Palace Resort.
