Guam – The University of Guam’s Center for Island Sustainability held the finals for the 2014 Green Dream Home Competition this morning with Southern High School being the champs this year.
The competition challenges high school students to creatively design a sustainable model home based on their green design knowledge.
A total of 16 teams from 9 high schools presented their model homes this morning where they were judged on practical use of sustainable technologies, creativity and oral presentation.
UOG Center for Island Sustainability Coordinator Elvie Tyler said, “It allows the students to showcase and demonstrate their work from their classrooms and making it a reality. Now the students are very much involved in how the island should look in the next few years, to be more sustainable, think about clean energy and think about renewable energy such as solar panels, wind turbines. Now we’re receiving from the students what they think a sustainable island should be.”
Tyler said this is the 3rd Green Dream Home Competition and they hope to continue to create awareness of sustainable issues among the island’s youth.
