Guam – Students from Simon Sanchez High School took the top honors at the National ProStart Invitational in Baltimore, Maryland over the weekend.
The students, who are part of the GCC ProStart Program, beat 42 other teams in the prestigious high school culinary competition. In the competition teams had to prepare a three-course meal in sixty minutes using only butane burners and with no access to running water or electricity.
Team Captain Macdaniel Dimla and members Airen Magday, Angellica Sia and Leyann Lusung impressed the judges with their menus of lumpia-encased seafood beggar’s purse, stuffed pork tenderloin and a playful take on coffee and cake.
All four team members will bring home gold medals and have been awarded generous educational scholarships to further their careers in the food service industry.
