Guam – The Governor, Senators, Judges and other island dignitaries gathered at the Legislature Tuesday morning for a State Funeral for the late Gloria Nelson.
Nelson passed away a week ago Sunday at GMH following a long illness.
She was fondly referred to as Lola COLA because of her efforts to win COLA pay increases for retirees. She also served as Chair of the Democratic Party of Guam, Territorial Education Board Chairwoman and member of the Consolidated Commission on Utilities.
Senator Judi Guthertz delivered the eulogy, recalling that she, along with Nelson and Dr. Ione Wolf, were all known as the 3 musketeers. She thanked Nelson for her tough, but compassionate leadership.
Gloria Nelson was 77 year old. She was buried at the Pigo Cemetery in Anigua. She is survived by her husband, former Senator Ted Nelson, and their 4 children.
Democratic Party Executive Director Carlo Branch told PNC News that the State Funeral was paid for with private donations and NOT with tax dollars.
