Guam – In addition to prioritizing the safety and education of the island’s public school children, Department of Education Superintendent Jon Fernandez said his goal during his administration is to establish stability and communication within the department.
The lack of stability and communication seemed to be a recurring theme before his administration, Fernandez pointed out as previous superintendents had lasted on average 14 months. Fernandez has been leading the department for 26 months now.
“When I came on board, the first change I wanted to implement was a sense of stability,” he noted. “We’re trying to address that stability from within, that’s why I’ve been really visible at our schools to, number one, to ensure I can see what’s happening on the front lines with our students, to ensure I have an open line of communication with parents, teachers and administrators.”
Fernandez was the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Guam meeting at the Pacific Star Resort.
