Guam – The Guam Memorial Hospital received a brand new, state of the art breathing machine today.
The generous donation was made by Take Care FHP at a press conference this morning in the GMH board room. The GMHA Volunteers Association and management was on hand to accept the Philips Respironics v60 ventilator valued at $18,000.
Associate Medical Director Dr. Felix Cabrera says the machine is unique and has special capabilities traditional ventilators don’t typically have.
“This is a unique ventilator that is both non-invasive and invasive ventilator something that’s new to me because typically those are two separate instruments. The fact that we combine it in one is actually very useful and allows for a lot of flexibility in its use,” says Cabrera.
He adds that the machine is critically needed and provides breathing support to patients with lung failure.
