Guam – The CLASS Lecture Hall at UOG was packed Thursday night for the 22ed Presidential Lecture given by University of Florida chemist Dr. Hendrik Luesch.

Dr. Luesch has been studying some unique species of sea algae that discovered in Apra Harbor and Cetti Bay on his first visit to the island more than a decade ago.

The algae may lead to the development of drugs to treat various diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s. Afterwards he told PNC News that he’s happy to be back on Guam and share his research.

Dr. Luesch said UOG is in a unique position to explore the potential for developing new drugs from sea-life because of the great bio-diversity in the Pacific Ocean around us..
