Videos have been circulating online of bars that are allegedly not enforcing COVID-19 requirements.

The videos show bars full of people close together, with no social distancing, and wearing no masks. Even the bartenders were not wearing masks.

Dr. Hoa Nguyen, the former head of the governor’s Physicians Advisory Group, shared the videos with NewsTalk K57. He has recommended the closing down of bars.

But Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero, in an interview with K57’s Patti Arroyo, said she won’t be closing bars down because data shows that the virus is not spreading in bars but in homes.

The governor also said that Public Health teams have been checking the bars’ compliance with COVID mandates and they found no violations.

Dr. Nguyen, however, said that a number of bars are forewarned when an inspection is coming which is why no violations are found.

But the governor pointed out that the date of when the videos were shot cannot be confirmed.

She also said the virus surge this year is very different from last year in that Guam now has more tools to fight the virus such as vaccination and monoclonal antibodies.
