A virtual signing was held today to proclaim April 5th through April 9th as National Public Health Week.
The proclamation theme is “Building Bridges to Better Health” and it was led by Governor Lou Leon Guerrero.
Department of Public Health and Social Services Executive Director Arthur San Agustin gave his remarks at the ceremony.
He mentioned Public Health’s mission which is to assist the people of Guam in achieving and maintaining the highest levels of independence in self-sufficiency and health and social work.
San Agustin says that COVID-19 has made the community’s health even more important and that making communities safe and healthy is Public Health’s top priority.
He stated that through the combined efforts of the divisions of the department, DPHSS provides a holistic system to support 11,000 or so clients that access public health care.
San Agustin says that while the pandemic is upon us we must pause to take notice and recognize the hard-working men and women of DPHSS who have stepped up to respond to the pandemic.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero echoed San Agustin’s remarks.
She said that over the years, Public Health is the entity that provides a total health care system throughout our island.
The governor said that she is proud and honored to celebrate Public Health Week.
Leon Guerrero also expressed her gratitude and said: “Public health is a passionate calling. You continue to put the health and safety of our island as your number one priority and I remain grateful to each and every one of you.”
She added that Public Health is the foundation for building a stronger and healthier Guam.
