Dear Governor Calvo,

I hope you understand you are not alone in your quest to make sacrifices and hard decisions in the best interests of the people of Guam. While you may be experiencing resistance to your spending cuts proposals, I offer to you and to the people of Guam a 10 percent reduction in my salary. As leaders, I think it is important that we lead by example.

I ask that the reduction take effect November 1st,  so my family and I can adjust to the loss in income. I also ask that the savings from my salary reduction be directed to tax refunds, effectively reducing the deficit.

I have copied the Director of Administration in this memo so she may make the appropriate adjustments through the payroll office.

Thank you for your leadership.

Sincerely,

TOMMY MORRISON
Director of Statistics & Plans

Dear Governor Calvo,

I fully understand the heavy burden placed upon you to make hard decisions in the best interests of our people.  I join you in your call for fiscal restraint and for moral authority to lead by example.

As such, I volunteer to reduce my salary by 10 percent just as you have. I ask that the savings from my salary reduction be directed toward the payment of tax refunds. Such payment effectively will reduce the deficit. I ask that the reduction take effect November 1 so my family and I can adjust to it.  My wife and I have prayerfully contemplated and calculated this sacrifice.

It is my sincere hope the legislature follows your lead and understands the grave importance of cutting spending so we can pay tax refunds.
