Volcanic haze present over the Marianas

Guam – The active volcanic activity from Mount Kilauea in Hawaii has produced dense plumes of volcanic haze that have now been observed over the Mariana Islands.

Carried across the Pacific Ocean and fueled by East-Northeast trade winds, the volcanic haze has been observed using satellite imagery.

The haze is expected to continue over the Mariana’s for the next couple of days however, a trough later in the week will likely redirect the haze Northwards, reducing haze in the region.

The National Weather Service advises residents to continue monitoring the situation and residents with respiratory health problems are advised to stay indoors and minimize time spent outdoors when haze is observed.
