Weather Advisory: Oct 19th 2017


Marianas – Buenas yan Hafa Adai, here is a look at some weather advisories issued by the National Weather Service, Tiyan Guam.

*** Typhoon Lan continues North Northwestward. About 580 miles North Northwest of Koror, 605 miles Northwest of Yap, 915 miles West of Guam. Maximum sustained winds will be as high as 75 mph. with it’s present movement North Northeast 330 degrees at 9 mph.

*** A small craft advisory remains in effect until 4 pm Sunday afternoon with combined seas of 7 to 10 ft. & Northwest winds of up to 20 knots. This will produce hazardous conditions for operations of small crafts. Winds will subside by tonight, but seas will remain hazardous for several days.

*** High surf Advisory is in effect until 6 pm Tuesday evening. West facing reefs will expect hazardous surf at 10-13 ft. today through Friday. Surf may increase further over the weekend. Possibly becoming dangerous at 15 ft. by Sunday. South facing reefs expect hazardous surf at 8-10 ft. today & tonight. Diminishing to below hazardous levels on Friday as swells become more westerly.

*** Another circulation is located northeast of Saipan near 15.5N 147.8E it is quasi-stationary with winds of 20-25 mph. The circulation is now the subject of a tropical cyclone formation alert from the joint typhoon warning center. Guidance differs as to the ultimate path of this circulation & to what, if any, significant impacts it will bring to the Marianas. These impacts would not likely occur prior to the weekend. It is still possible to see some isolated heavy showers accompanied by gusty wind through tonight.
