As COVID-19 restrictions ease, more and more residents are returning to the workplace.

In partnership with the Guam Chamber of Commerce, members of the Guam Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management recently held a webinar advising employers and HR professionals on how to help employees transition back into the workplace.

They included suggestions concerning staggered shifts as part of social distancing measures, updating business continuity plans, and how to respond if a worker may be infected with COVID-19.

Daphne Leon Guerrero, an SHRM certification director, says that this transition won’t be simple.

“One of the biggest challenges is that people are afraid to come back to work. One of the ways we’ve addressed that is to say, ‘I understand. This is the situation we’re in, but this is what we’re doing as a company to make sure that your return to work is safe and that we’re taking the precautions that are necessary in order to make sure you remain healthy and well. And by extension, your family does, too.’ It’s not just an HR thing, it has to be a company-wide effort,” Leon Guerrero said.

For those who missed the webinar and want to watch it, Guam Chamber of Commerce President Catherine Castro says that the video will be posted online soon.
