Guam -Sunday, October 19 – It may have taken some convincing and encouragement from her friends, but after a long, eight-year hiatus from playing soccer, 16-year-old Kiara Chargualaf decided to make 2013 her comeback year.

“My best friends wanted all of us to play on the same team, so that got me to play again,” said Chargualaf, who currently plays for the Southern Heat’s U17 team. “So far, it’s been really fun. I feel more confident on the field. I used to think I wasn’t good enough, but everyone’s motivated me to play again.”

With her experience in the Docomo Pacific Robbie Webber Youth League, Chargualaf is contemplating on playing in the IIAAG Girls High School Soccer League for her school’s team, the defending champion Southern High School Dolphins. Chargualaf’s Southern Heat teammate, Francesca Pangelinan is looking to use her experience in the youth league to help improve her game for both the interscholastic league with the George Washington High School Geckos and the women’s league with the Paintco Lady Strykers.

“I feel like I’m getting better with each youth league match,” said Pangelinan. “Playing with the boys, I know I have to push harder and be more aggressive on the field. This helps me improve overall.”

Chargualaf and Pangelinan joined over 1,000 other young athletes in Week 4 action of the youth league in exceptionally windy conditions.
