Just in time for the Philippine Independence holiday, the Westin Resort Guam’s Taste restaurant is offering signature Filipino dishes in a special Philippine cuisine buffet.
Taste Restaurant Manager Jesun Bactista says that having the restaurant feature these dishes gives Filipino residents on the island a taste of home.
“Hopefully, it brings good memories to everyone,” Bactista said.
For this year, Westin Resort Guam’s Executive Sous Chef Bernard Manansala says they are featuring popular dishes from the three main regions of the Philippines — Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The menu is especially personal to him as he tells PNC that all of the dishes they prepared were recipes from his mother.
“My mom’s a really good chef, a really good cook. Back in the Philippines, we have a small restaurant that she managed. Like I was only 10 years old and I’m already learning how to cook,” Manansala said.
He added: “You know, our province is Pampanga and the women in the Philippines from Pampanga are the best chefs because they start at a young age, cooking in the fiesta and I learned from my mom.”
Taste Restaurant is having a special Philippine cuisine buffet all throughout the month of June, every Friday and on the actual Philippine Independence Day date, which is Saturday, June 12.
Although the restaurant is currently fully booked, Bactista and Mananasala still encourage residents to make a reservation and stop by to celebrate this special buffet with them.
