NWS expects 40% chance of rain for this entire week.
Guam – The National Weather Service forecast rest of the week to be very wet, unlike today’s weather, due to Typhoon Atsani’s monsoonal flow.
For this week, NWS writes to expect, “mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms,” for Tuesday until next week Monday in its Mariana Island Forecast. Tabular Forecast from the Service also shows 40% chance of rain throughout the period. In explaining the reason of this forecast, NWS writes “[…] we [will] enter the monsoon winds flowing into Typhoon Atsani to the east,” in its Area Forecast Discussion from this morning. Likewise, in its latest statement, the National Weather Service also writes that the monsoon pattern and scattered showers are expected starting Tuesday.
Besides the higher chance of rain due to the typhoon’s affect, winds and waves are anticipated to be higher than usual as well. “These winds should gradually increase during the week as Typhoon Atsani moves northwest well northeast of the Marianas,” NWS says. Currently High Surf Advisory is in effect until 6PM (CHST) this Friday due to this anticipated increase.
