Wind Turbine Tested For Lowering Capability During Typhoon

Guam Power Authority PIO Art Perez tells PNC that the wind turbine is meant to be lowered in the case of a typhoon and this feature is currently being tested.

Guam – If you’re driving along cross-island road and you notice that GPA’s recently installed wind turbine is leaning over it’s not broken it’s designed to do just that.

 A concerned resident sent PNC photos of GPA’s wind turbine leaning. However, Guam Power Authority PIO Art Perez tells PNC that the wind turbine is meant to be lowered in the case of a typhoon and this feature is currently being tested. Perez assures PNC that the wind turbine is still functioning. Perez says that the wind turbine is designed to be lowered with blades locked in place within one hour of a typhoon. Perez says this feature is necessary for this region.
