With Two Weeks To Go, Still No Applicants for DOE Superintendent Position

Guam – Department of Education Superintendent Nerissa Underwood’s contract expires at the beginning of next month and so far, no one has applied to take her position.

Last month the Governor’s Chief Education Adviser Vince Leon Guerrero told PNC that he planned to apply for the position, but was waiting on some paperwork before submitting his application to the board.

The Guam Education Board Extended the original May 16th deadline to June 30th to expand their search outside of Guam.

Board Chairman Francis Santos says while no applications have been submitted to his knowledge, he is confident at least one will come in soon.

“We got one interested party from California I spoke to who will be submitting an application,” Santos said. “Thats one we can count on.”

The minimum requirements for the Superintendent position are a Master’s Degree in Education, Business, Public Administration or a related field, five years of leadership in a related field and a lack of a criminal record.  Application forms are available at the DOE Personnel office in the Department of Administration building in Hagatna.
