Woman Dead After Her Car Hits Power Pole; 15th Traffic Fatality of the Year


Guam – A 27 year old woman is dead this morning [Monday] after her Toyota Corolla hit a concrete power pole along the back road to Andersen.

Guam Police Department Spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia reports that Officers from the Dededo Precinct were on the scene at 3:29 am.

Guam Fire Department Spokesman Joey San Nicolas says GFD Rescue Units E 10, M10 and ALS1 responded to the scene at 3:47 am.

The woman was traveling northbound when her vehicle slid off the roadway at the curve  just past the road up to Mt. Santa Rosa. She was the only person in the vehicle.

The roadway was wet and slick from overnight rain.

San Nicolas reports that CPR was performed on the Woman at the scene. However GMH Nursing Supervisor Maria Mafnas tells PNC News that the woman  was pronounced dead-on-arrival about 4:30 am this morning when she arrived at Guam Memorial Hospital. Her identity has not been released.

Medical Examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola performed an autopsy Monday afternoon and says the woman died of a skull fracture.

Officer Balajadia says that the Guam Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation and will look into the causes of the crash. He says it is the 15th traffic related fatality of the year resulting from 13th different traffic accidents.
