Work requirement waived under SNAP program for able-bodied adults without dependents

The Department of Public Health & Social Services has announced that the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service has approved Guam’s waiver for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) time limit for the able–bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs).

ABAWDs between the ages of 18 to 49 can receive SNAP benefits for only three (3) months in a 36-month period unless the SNAP recipient meets one of the federal work requirements or meets an exemption.

The approved waiver allows an ABAWD to receive SNAP benefits beyond the 3-month time limit as long as other eligibility requirements are met. The waiver is effective March 1, 2021, and will expire on February 28, 2022.
