Tsunamis know no borders, making international cooperation key for deeper political and public understanding of risk reduction measures.

As a result, the UN General Assembly has designated today, November 5th as World Tsunami Awareness Day.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense, following a worldwide initiative through the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, held a workshop and distributed National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radios to various organizations to include some private, non-profit organizations, private school, and private sector partners.

This is in connection to the same initiative from previous years where government of Guam agencies, Guam Department of Education schools, respective village mayor’s offices, and other federal and military partners were provided the same radios.
