Guam – Heather Thompson, Phoebe Minato and Janel Banks scored a goal apiece as Guahan Xplosions White took the inaugural 2011 Guam Shipyard Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League Under-18 All-Girls Division title today with a 3-0 win over Bombettes 2 at GFA Headquarters in Harmon.
The Xplosions completed the season with a perfect 9-0 record, including playoff matches, and helped make a successful first season for the pilot program.
The Under-16 division, which didn’t have playoffs, saw the Southern Cobras wrap up the title last week and also finished with a perfect 9-0 record. They finished three points ahead of Wings FC, who conceded the title to their U-16 rivals. The ASC Islanders (6-2-1) finished third.
In the Under-14 division, Wings Red won an all-Wings final, defeating Wings Black 4-3. Both teams finished on top of their pool and won their respective semifinal matches to ensure a Wings team emerged as champions. The Islanders defeated the Cobras 7-1 in the consolation match.
The Under-12, -10, -8 and -6 divisions all played shortened matches in a season-ending Jamboree. Results were not counted as the matches were more to promote fun and love of the game.
Up next for the island’s youth is futsal, slated to begin in the summer.
