The village of Yona finally has a Municipal Planning Council.

The 10 members, appointed by former Mayor Jesse Blas, were sworn in during a ceremony at the Yona Mayor’s office Wednesday evening.

The Yona Municipal Planning Council members are:

Brian J. Terlaje – Vice Chairman
Rose F. Guerrero – Secretary
Paz Cruz – Treasurer
David Sayama
Mary Castro
Marie M. Taisipic
Charlene Tenorio
Daniel A. Taitingfong
Julia C. Cruz
Pedro Guerrero

The Yona MPC should have been appointed two years ago when Blas took office, but he never named its members until last month, shortly before he resigned from office.

On Tuesday, Blas entered a plea of guilty to a federal charge of extortion. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 4.

The Guam Election Commission is expected to officially declare the Yona Mayoral office “vacant” at their meeting this evening and set a date for a special election to fill that vacancy.

GEC Executive Director Maria Pangelinan has said that the earliest possible date that a special election could be held would be March 28. However, the legislature still must appropriate the roughly $22,000 that is needed to conduct that election.
