Guam – (Sunday, October 27) – First-time soccer player Casey Howard Zinser may have started playing the sport late, but he’s having just as much fun as the rest of his teammates in the U17B division of the Docomo Pacific Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

“My friends asked me to join soccer,” said Zinser, a 15-year-old Father Duenas Memorial School sophomore and a member of the ASC Trust Islanders Apaka U17B team. “Not ever playing the sport, I didn’t really like it, but now that I’m playing, it’s actually more fun that I thought. I’m having a lot of fun so far.”

Zinser missed tryouts for the Friars soccer team this year, but hopes to gain experience through the youth league to make the team in the future. Zinser’s ASC Trust Islanders Apaka teammate, Marco Jacob, did make the Friars soccer team as a freshman and looks forward to playing in the upcoming IIAAG Boys High School Interscholastic League.

“I think playing in the youth league will help me in the interscholastic league,” said Jacob. “I’m expecting the high school league matches to be more rough and more competitive for sure. I know I need some work (to move up to that level of play).”

In Week 5 of the youth league, the U17 defending champions, the ASC Trust Islanders Betde, picked up a 3-1 win over the Wings Black. Kristian Martinez, Austin Cardines, and Phillip Ogo scored for the Islanders. Phillip Caguioa scored for the Wings Black.
